Jessica Gonsiorowski

About Jessica Gonsiorowski

Born and raised in Germany by a German mom and American father, Jessica enjoyed a multicultural upbringing that has given her a curious, open mind and warm heart. Jessica took her first yoga class at 19 years old and discovered that letting go of thoughts and stressors, as well as finding inner strength through creating a strong body, made her feel better and reconnect with herself. Learning to live in the present moment has been the biggest gift she has received from her yoga practice.

As a teacher, Jessica focuses on the body-mind connection, healthy alignment, creating awareness of personal needs, and nourishing the relationship with oneself. She continues to be impressed by the parallels of life on and off the mat and hopes to communicate that within her classes. She strives for her students to have fun and find their personal practice and become their own agents of change.

Jessica completed her 200-hour certification through Bloom Yoga Studio, Chicago, and 300-hour Advanced Teacher Training at Prairie Yoga. Becoming a yoga teacher has filled her life to the fullest, and she is overjoyed about how much happiness it has created in her life.

Understand your body better and live more resiliently

Yoga for Knees and Hips

$57 | $156 for the series of 3 workshops*
Registration required

This workshop is one of the 3 workshops in the Therapeutic Yoga Series. Sign up for this workshop on its own or save $15 when you sign up for all 3.

Therapeutic Yoga Series

Habitual postures and movement patterns can create imbalances in your body that contribute to discomfort, pain, or even injury over time. Although yoga is a great support in keeping your body healthy, it is not uncommon to take these imbalances into your yoga practice and perpetuate some of them. Feel the liberation of understanding your body, its patterns, and imbalances. Expand your yoga practice or come and start your yoga journey in these intelligently developed workshops. Learn how a therapeutic approach to your yoga practice can create more balance, stability, and freedom in your body.

In each 2-hr workshop you will study a specific area of the body, learn its basic anatomy, how to strengthen and lengthen the key muscles, and get insight into the specific area's energetic component. You will learn about your habitual patterns, how to move towards more functional alignment and movement in your daily life and on the mat.

Yoga for Knees and Hips

The knees and the hips have an especially symbiotic relationship when it comes to movement and posture. Tight and cranky hips are one of the more common complaints in the yoga room, and knees can quickly become an obstacle in your practice if correct alignment is absent. In this workshop we will focus on functional alignment, posture and movement of the knee and hip joints. Learn how releasing and strengthening supporting muscles can alleviate discomfort and bring more freedom into your movements. Learn about your own habitual patterns in these areas of your body and how you can create more functional and sustainable movements on and off your mat.

You may be interested in this workshop if:

  • you are experiencing knee or hip pain

  • you are recovering from injury or surgery (if cleared by your physician)

  • you have been experiencing chronic pain

  • you want to improve your posture and movement patterns

Vedic Chanting: Sound for Healing Workshop

Yoga Among Friends (map)

Led by Aimee Forsberg Ottosen, C-IAYT, E-RYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP, Certified Holistic Ayurvedic Counselor, Certified Health & Wellness Coach

Workshop | Saturday, April 27, 2024
2–4pm | $67 registration requested

Come experience the healing power of sound through Vedic Chanting and learn part of the ancient Peace Chants. The benefits of Vedic chanting are many, including a focused mind and focused attention, enhanced memory and creativity, improved breath capacity, strengthened immune system, and reduced mental agitation.  The powerful vibrational sounds have the potential to alter and heal us.  We will learn at least two chants in Sanskrit, a revered language with special meaning and significance.  The Peace Chants come from the Vedas, the most sacred and precious of the Indian teachings.  They have been transmitted through oral tradition for thousands of years, from teacher to student, with attention given to protect and preserve them.

This class will begin with a gentle asana and pranayama practice to prepare the body, mind, and breath for chanting.  Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to practice some basic poses and sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor.

Yoga Alliance CEU available upon request.

Meet Aimee, a seasoned practitioner and devoted guide on the transformative journey of yoga. Introduced to the practice at the nimble age of twelve, Aimee's unwavering commitment to yoga has shaped her into a certified Yoga Therapist recognized by IAYT, where she specializes in the Viniyoga tradition, honing her expertise at the Yoga Well Institute under the guidance of Chase Bossart.  Aimee also is an E-RYT 500 and YACEP (continuing education provider) accredited by Yoga Alliance.

A perpetual student, Aimee's spiritual quest extends beyond borders as she weekly immerses herself in Vedic chanting with Ms. Suhasini Krishnan at Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India. Mentored by Laura Jane Mellencamp of Yoga Among Friends, Aimee is a conduit of traditional classical yoga, sharing the profound wisdom and healing inherent in this ancient practice.

In her role as a Yoga Therapist, Aimee works intimately with individuals and small groups, crafting sessions that reflect her deep understanding of the human spirit and the therapeutic power of yoga. Additionally, Aimee offers Ayurvedic Counseling, Panchakarma therapies, and is committed to continuing her own education as she completes certification as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and continues studying with her teachers, both in the US and India.

Driven by the belief that one can experience "sukha" (good space), Aimee encourages her students to explore their unique paths and dharma on this earthly journey. Beyond the physical postures, Aimee's teachings traverse the subtle realms of breath, mind, spirit, and inner space, illuminating the profound connections that lead to balance, joy, and clarity in life.

Grateful for the profound gifts of Yoga and Ayurveda, Aimee is passionately dedicated to passing along the rich ideas, traditions, and philosophy embedded in these ancient practices. As she guides her students towards their own space of ease, Aimee remains a beacon of inspiration, embodying the transformative power of yoga on and off the mat.
