Candlelight Yoga Nidra & Restorative Yoga
A Monthly Full Moon Series
Our Candlelight Yoga Nidra & Restorative Yoga Full Moon Series invites you to pause at the turning point of each lunar cycle. Practicing under soft candlelight, we settle into supported restorative postures that allow the body to release tension while guided Yoga Nidra meditation gently leads the mind into profound relaxation.
Held once each month near the full moon, this practice offers a peaceful space to reflect, restore your energy, and reconnect with yourself.
These monthly gatherings take place at Yoga Among Friends in Downers Grove, Illinois, welcoming students from throughout the western suburbs including Naperville, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Lisle, and the greater Chicago area.
Whether you are new to restorative yoga or an experienced practitioner, this evening is designed to meet you where you are.

A Monthly Ritual of Rest & Reflection
The full moon has long been associated with illumination, reflection, and renewal.
In yoga traditions, this time in the lunar cycle can be a powerful moment to pause, release what feels heavy, and return to a sense of inner balance.
Our Candlelight Yoga Nidra & Restorative Yoga gatherings are intentionally slow and spacious. With gentle guidance and supportive props, you will rest in restorative poses that calm the nervous system and prepare the body for meditation.
The practice concludes with Yoga Nidra, often called yogic sleep, a guided meditation that allows the body to rest deeply while awareness remains gently present.
Many students leave feeling grounded, nourished, and restored.
What to Expect
Each Full Moon gathering includes a blend of restorative yoga and guided meditation designed to support deep relaxation.
Restorative Yoga
Gentle, fully supported postures using blankets, bolsters, and blocks help release muscular tension and invite the body into a state of rest. These poses are held for several minutes, allowing the nervous system to settle.
Yoga Nidra Meditation
During Yoga Nidra, you will lie comfortably as you are guided through a deeply relaxing meditation. This practice can help quiet the mind, reduce stress, and promote restorative rest.
A Candlelit Studio Environment
Soft candlelight creates a peaceful atmosphere that encourages inward reflection and a sense of calm.
Together, these practices create an evening devoted to stillness, restoration, and mindful awareness.
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice, often called yogic sleep, that allows the body to rest deeply while the mind remains gently aware. Practiced while lying comfortably in stillness, this meditation guides awareness through a series of calming observations that help the nervous system settle and the mind release tension.
Research suggests Yoga Nidra may support:
• deep relaxation
• stress reduction
• improved sleep
• nervous system regulation
• emotional balance
At Yoga Among Friends in Downers Grove, Yoga Nidra is frequently paired with Restorative Yoga to create a complete experience of rest and renewal.
