Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga is designed to reduce the aches and pains which accompany pregnancy, in a nurturing and supportive environment. The class teaches strength and stamina, as well as concentration and breath control. You will focus on special breathing techniques, opening the hips, and preparing your body for birth. Learn techniques to alleviate lower back pain, leg pain and slumping posture by practicing gentle, modified yoga poses and breathing exercises. Prenatal yoga class is also a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with other pregnant women and celebrate your changing bodies and growing babies. Appropriate for expectant mothers at all stages of pregnancy.

This unique class is taught by Therese Carlson RN, CYT - a registered nurse and yoga teacher. She is the mother of 3 young adults. Therese just completed her 500hr Teacher Training at Prairie Yoga and certified through Global Yoga Center in Chicago for Prenatal Yoga. She also works as a nurse in the community. Therese uses her 33 years of nursing experience and her love of yoga to nurture, strengthen and guide moms-to-be through this exciting journey.

Meditation can be difficult to do it on your own and finding a meditation group can provide the necessary encouragement for developing a consistent practice.

During this 6 week class, you will be supported in the process of reconnecting to a place of deep relaxation and inner calm. Whether you are new to meditation or a seasoned meditator, you will feel a real connection with others as we sit together and meditate.

Every week you will be guided through a different meditation, focusing on breath, mantra, visualization and body scan. These meditation tools with help you continue your meditation practice at home, work or school. Afterwards, you will have the option to discuss and share your experiences about the meditations.

This Restorative Yoga class is a time to nourish, nurture and create balance in your body, mind, and spirit.  Students will connect to the body through sequencing that supports our whole being. Ellen will provide breath awareness, visualization, and auditory guidance creating an imprint empowering the student.  A restorative practice frequently relies on the use of props to achieve a deep level of relaxation.  

This deep conscious relaxation benefits all the organ systems of the body.  A few of the measureable results include: reduced blood pressure, lower serum triglycerides & blood sugar levels; increase in “good” cholesterol; improved digestion, elimination, and fertility; relaxed muscles; and reduced insomnia & generalized fatigue.  These benefits work together to create a more harmonious state of being.  Research shows the effects of rest calm the nervous system and reverse the effects of stress and aging.   

Through the techniques of the practice, you awaken grace, poise, flexibility, balance, strength, and present moment awareness. As a tool for self-transformation, restorative yoga facilitates the integration of all the layers of life—environmental, physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual—culminating in the goal of all goals, awakening to your own divine nature.

This is a great class for people who are new to yoga (beginners) as well as those who are recovering from certain injuries or trauma, those who need to de-stress from work, and those or restore from a more vigorous yoga practice (or who workout, run, lift weights, play golf, play tennis and/or participate is other moderate/vigorous sports and exercise programs).

Each class ends with a meditative guided relaxation called Yoga Nidra which can bring the healing effects of deep sleep to the mind as well as body restoring your whole being.

Join us for a powerfully transformational healing gong and singing bowl meditation with Marian & Gabriela Kraus, among the finest sound therapy work in the greater Chicago area.

Marian and Gabriela Kraus will present you the opportunity to re-calibrate, re-tune and re-balance your core, or simply put, to be put back together. 

The couple’s meditative and transformational experience is a psycho-acoustic gateway to elevate individuals’ vibratory frequency and thereby reach higher states of conscious awareness.

Guests will bathe in an envelope of sound generated by mystical characteristics of three large gongs, several authentic Himalayan singing bowls (a.k.a. Tibetan singing bowl) and additional sound tools.

The three stages of the event are:

  • 1st segment – Participants receive an outline of sound therapy and history of the gongs, followed by a description of how the upcoming meditation and sound session work together to facilitate a transformation, evolution and healing experience within the conscious mind.
  • 2nd segment – A carefully chosen guided meditation, or mindfulness meditation, primes the subconscious mind to transition into the essential personal transformation experience brought on by the healing sounds in the…
  • 3rd segment – Following the guided meditation guests are immersed in a bubble of ancestral and otherworldly sounds generated by gongs, one of man’s oldest therapeutic instruments. The couple’s sound space envelopes one in a uniquely rhythmic, melodic and pleasing fashion. The gong’s vibrational and sonic characteristics deeply resonate all 50 – 75 trillion cells of the body, and energize and relax simultaneously in a most powerful and unique way.

About Marian

Marian generates a broad spectrum of fascinating rhythms and functional harmonics by exploring the full range of frequencies within his instruments ranging from shimmering explosive highs to deep mysterious lows. His meditative and transformative sound journeys are driven by his innate rhythmic hand drum abilities and keen sense of visual and intuitive perception. The result is that these sonic, vibrational and mystical characteristics energize and quiet the mind & body in a very unique fashion. His gong sound meditations are psychoacoustic gateways to higher states of awareness and consciousness. They provide spaces for inner healing while taking listeners into truly otherworldly realms.

After spending 20 years in the corporate world, he began his career as a professional architectural and fine art photographer in the Chicago area in 1999. By being a long time hand drummer, he expanded his creative repertoire by expressing images also through the sound of gongs. Marian is a member of the Sound Healers Association and refines his advanced interpretation and application of gong sound healing under the guidance of senior instructor, lecturer and teacher Mitch Nur, PhD of

About Gabriela

Growing up in the bustling and colorful surroundings of Mexico City, Gabriela holds masters degrees in art, religions and psychotherapy, and degrees in communication and history. She is certified as a Life Coach and facilitator of Universal Energy. In her earlier career she applied her extensive experience in corporate marketing and communications for the Ford Motor Company and the Interlomas Commercial Center, among others. Prenatal Yoga is designed to reduce the aches and pains which accompany pregnancy, in a nurturing and supportive environment. The class teaches strength and stamina, as well as concentration and breath control. You will focus on special breathing techniques, opening the hips, and preparing your body for birth. Learn techniques to alleviate lower back pain, leg pain and slumping posture by practicing gentle, modified yoga poses and breathing exercises. Prenatal yoga class is also a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with other pregnant women and celebrate your changing bodies and growing babies. Appropriate for expectant mothers at all stages of pregnancy.

This unique class is taught by Therese Carlson RN, CYT - a registered nurse and yoga teacher. She is the mother of 3 young adults. Therese just completed her 500hr Teacher Training at Prairie Yoga and certified through Global Yoga Center in Chicago for Prenatal Yoga. She also works as a nurse in the community. Therese uses her 33 years of nursing experience and her love of yoga to nurture, strengthen and guide moms-to-be through this exciting journey.

Yoga classes will blend the disciplines of various styles of Hatha yoga with the mindfulness of meditation in this like-minded community. They will cover the fundamental principles underlying the therapeutic application of yoga and how to incorporate these principles into your practice. Work to dissolve old blockages, unravel samskaras, and create new pathways to vibrant health and happiness. The end result will be one of the most incredible, unforgettable yoga experiences you will ever have.

It is perfect for all levels of practitioners, yoga teachers, and bodywork therapists.

The cost of the retreat is $2115 double occupancy with a $600 deposit due at time of booking. The full payment is due no later than January 31, 2019. Limited single occupancy is available at a higher rate or $2599—call the studio to inquire 630-960-5488. Payment methods: PayPal, credit card, cash, check. Discounted rate of $2055 double occupancy, if paying by cash or check in full. Book by September 15 and save $100!

The cost of the retreat includes:
