yoga therapy

For centuries, the science of yoga has been used to enhance physical and emotional well-being. Now, the therapeutic potential of yoga is being recognized around the world. When yoga tools are practiced with therapeutic intentions, one can either prevent or help alleviate the symptoms of illness on the physical, mental and emotional layers of our lives, including stress, back pain, arthritis, hypertension, asthma, depression, anxiety disorders, Parkinson’s Disease, cancers and addictions. Yoga Therapy uses the various tools of physical movement with the various breath techniques. Also included is the use of sound, meditation and self-study.

Yoga Therapy is the adaptation of yoga practice designed for the individual's own needs. Medical research shows that Yoga Therapy is among the most effective complimentary therapies for the stresses of life. Anyone can benefit from the one-on-one program designed for the absolute beginner to the lifetime practioner.

YAF’s therapists are trained by the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation in India, which has been providing yoga therapy for over thirty years, and its extension, the Healing Yoga Foundation in San Francisco.

getting started
At your first class, we will discuss your goals and how yoga therapy can help you. We will answer any questions that you have, take your health history, observe your doing some simple physical movements and assess your breath.

During your second class, you will be taught your personalized yoga practice, which has been specifically designed to support your health and well-being.

We will meet again in 1 - 2 weeks for follow-up. At this time, we will assess how well your practice has been working and make any adjustments as needed. Afterwards, additional follow-up sessions are advised depending on each individual.
