The main text of Classical Yoga is the Yoga Sutras of
Patanjali. This is where we find
the outline for the eight-limbed path of Astanga Yoga. These eight limbs are Yama
(restraints), Niyama (observances), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing
techniques), Pratyahara (withdrawing the senses), Dharana (concentration),
Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (complete union).
The eight limbs are a detailed scientific method for
achieving a state of Yoga. Each is
progressive and offers a more subtle and complete understanding of the
Self. The goal of Yoga is
Self-realization or the reconnection to our true nature. By systematically following the eight
limbs, one will find their way home, reuniting with the Sat Chit Ananda within,
Pure Being, Pure Consciousness, Pure Bliss. This is not just for a select few. Patanjali gave us this knowledge of how to achieve Yoga so
that every serious practitioner could reach it.
Please join Karen Weber for an introduction of the basic
philosophy behind the practice of Yoga as we know it today. This is an incredible opportunity to receive in-depth knowledge at the
cost of a regular yoga class! Recommended reading:
