  1. Come prepared.
We have yoga mats and props available for your use at no charge, but it is always best to bring your own mat when possible. You may also want to bring water and towel. Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach, so eat lightly or not at all for 1-2 hours before class. Also, please be prepared to pay for the class with cash or check as the yoga center does not accept credit cards.

For your first yoga class, please arrive 10-15 min early to fill out new student information and meet your teacher. Please tell the teacher if you have any injuries or conditions that may limit your yoga practice. If you aren't sure if your condition is limiting, please tell the teacher anyway as our job is first and foremost to keep you safe and healthy.

  2. Be on time.
In respect for the teacher and fellow students, please be arrive on time. Also, yoga practice is based on a series of postures that need to be practiced in a sequence. The warmup postures are a fundamental and trying to perform deeper postures without them may result in injury.

  3. Refrain from leaving early.
If you must leave early, speak with your teacher at the beginning of class. Before leaving, please practice savasana to allow your body to feel the benefit of the practice. Savasana allows your heart rate to slow down and the oxygen in your blood to circulate to your entire body. It offers a chance to still your mind and accept feelings that may have come up during practice.

  4. Breathe through your nose.
Breathe through your nose to encourage stillness in the body and allows for a longer exhale breath which is key to calming the mind.

  5. Commit to a regular, consistent practice.
Changing your life takes practice. A consistent, continuous yoga practice (1 to 3 times a week) will help you manage your stress, build confidence, strengthen your body and deepen your awareness.

  6. Listen to your body.
You know what your body can and can’t do. Take baby steps. Our teachers will encourage you to explore your limits, but ultimately, you must decide how far to go. You will decide when to work through something, and when to avoid it. You are your own best teacher. Yoga meets you where you are!

  7. Let our teachers gently adjust your alignment, when necessary.
Our teachers will assist you to further understand the postures. They may help with your alignment to prevent injury or to simply connect on a deeper level.
