| Our School is going up! |
| 11/18/07: Ground broke for our new school in July 2007. Our school is called the Quoi An Preschool, in Vam An Hamlet, Quoi An Commune which is located in the Vung Liem District in Vinh Long Province. The school will be a preschool for 3-5 year olds with 2 female teachers. Quoi An has 372 children from 3 to 5 years old but there are only 274 children going to preschool. The rest of children must stay at home because either there is no preschool or it is located too far from their house. Therefore, parents in this area are really longing for a new preschool so that their children can learn and play while they go to work to earn their living. Understanding the urgent needs of having a new preschool, the local People’s Committee allocated a piece of public land which is in the center of Quoi An Commune and very convenient for the children at Vam An, Truong Din Hang 1 Hamlet.
To date the foundation, walls, and roof have been completed. Workers are now painting the walls, doors and windows, installing the ceiling, placing ceramic tiles on the walls, and compacting the ground floor. Construction is ahead of schedule.

| 4/3/07: The location of our school is in the process of being selected. It is an exciting time! We are on target to receive the application report at the end of May or beginning of June. Right now, Room to Read's local teams are completing needs assessments of potential communities in order to decide which communities will be the most appropriate partners to build our school.

Yoga Among Friends is proud to be partnering with Room to Read to build a school in Vietnam, where the average person survives on less than $1.00 a day. More than 100 million school-age children in the developing world are not enrolled in primary school!!
Room to Read's successful approach to the problem of rural education consists of:
- Partnering with communities to build schools through their challenge grant program
- Establishing bi-lingual libraries
- Publishing local language children's books
- Establishing computer and language labs
- Providing long-term scholarships to girls

Room to Read Benefit Fundraiser
On September 8, 2006, Yoga Among Friends held a benefit to raise money to build our first school, to be located in Vietnam. We raised over $23,000, more than enough to fully build the school.
The event was a huge success was held at the studio with dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. Delicious food was provided by L'Anne Restaurant. Music was provided by J. Michael Taylor Band and by Walter Cunningham & One Accord Gospel Choir. Over 100 guests dined, chatted, sang, and danced the night away.
